Too much media?

Are we consuming too much media in our daily lives that its controlling how we live our lives? I am no perfect person either when it comes to watching a TV show, watching YouTube, watching live streaming internet shows like on the TWiT network(which is great by the way), listening to internet podcasts and also Xbox games.
It seems for me is that with places like Twitter and Facebook well especially twitter everyone has a recommendation for their media their have worked on or they have seen this latest show that was on TV or on Netflix. And from internet shows like Frame Rate. I'm not saying recommendations are bad, just too many.
What a guy should do is not take on so much media. Instead of taking on 5 shows 3 games at time rather 2 shows and maybe 1 game. Or something like that. And manage what media to consume at a given time.
Do you figure that you are consuming too much media and is piling up from people recommending for you to consume?

Plex

Last month I was having trouble with Plex media server. When I was streaming a movie through my Xbox it would frequently fail to play a movie or tv show or it would get choppy and then stop playing. The error message I always got was that it lost connection to the PC. So I tried to restart Plex a few times and it would do the same each time I tried. I actually tried to see if i could stream to my Nexus 7 tablet and it would not connect to that even. So I thought maybe other people might have a solution on the Plex support forums. I didn't find much. Someone mentioned that maybe its a router issue. So I logged into my router played around a little bit with settings didn't seem to do much. It just hit me, maybe just reset it to factory settings. I did that and the Plex media server works great and actually my WiFi is a lot more stable too. I don't lose connection on my Nexus 7 anymore. I think now my network is fast than before.

A few weekends ago my Xbox prompted me to try and fix the connection to my Xbox. When it said that my NAT was set at strict. When I reset the router factory settings the upnp was not turned on which hurts the playability of some games like Black ops 2. I noticed and wondered about but didn't clue. Now its turned on and all is good. I have noticed that the Xbox has a hard time playing certain videos. I will have to play with some of the settings maybe with the transencoder or connection speeds.

Car talk

Seems like every summer/spring year that I get convinced that I should modify my Camaro to go quicker and compete with the people around at work. I guess to feel that I am in the group of vehicle enthusiasts who modify their vehicles for fun. They are the ones that have the extra money to spend on their vehicles. I don't see that it makes sense to make myself more in debt to compete who has the better ride. The other thing is I don't have the expertise to do modifications like they can do. But I can do basic bolt on stuff. I don't really have a garage to do any of this stuff either. If I did have a garage I could try more of that stuff.
My own saying for my ride is that it is a cruiser not a race machine and the more you modify it the more that stuff breaks and the more money, time goes into it. And you know what I like my car being a cruiser I find it would be more reliable and still fun at the same time.
Last year was a right off for me, the car sat most of the summer waiting to be fixed and I didn't get to drive for like 3 or 4 weeks which is not very long especially up north here. And this year is more to make up for it.
What I am going to do is put in my new weather stripping on (it really needs it) and get the windows tinted that is it. Most of all just drive it and enjoy it.

Nexus 7

Last week I bought a Nexus 7 Tablet. The main reason I bought this tablet is to play TV shows, IPTV, and movies over my network using Plex. With the bigger screen vs my Galaxy S 3 videos would be more enjoyable to watch, plus I can load up a show for work to watch at lunch time if I get a chance to. I have discovered Plex on Know How on the Twit.tv network. The interface is quite nice and easy to use. You can also add channels like Youtube, TED Talks, NPR, CNN, NASA and many more.

I have used my Nexus 7 for a couple of weeks and I like it alot. A person might think that a 7 inch Tablet is too small when in fact is just right its not too heavy to carry around. I have found out that I didnt before I brought this device that it is a joy to read from, with the extra screen real estate I can read more (which sounds kinda corny). It makes a big difference.

I had an issue with the wifi, but with a few tweaks I got it going good. I bought a case from Amazon.com and it should be here soon.

The best thing about this tablet is that it is completly hackable which I want to tryout later.

Calgary Expo

In my current situation I will not be going to Calgary Expo this year. For the reasons that I am in the hole a lot of money from my car upgrades from last year, line of credit to paint the car 4 year's ago and always difficult credit card debt to pay off. Plus as I have noticed so far is the list of guests going to the show haven't given me a reason to go. They did in the past get a guest to show up a week before the event. This time it would have to be someone that I have to go see.
There will be another year to go to them convention's.

Well I am heading to Calgary for the Expo. Nathan Fillion is going to be there this year. He is the last signing that I want from. I will try not to spend much money at the Expo this year, probably wont happen.

Well it didn't take me long to spend money for the Expo. I went ahead and bought a Battlestar Galactica Viper Pilot Flightsuit Costume. I am getting it made and hopefully I will get it before the show.
